The Ship Inn is not only Saltburn’s oldest pub, built in the late 18th century, but it also holds a rich history, including its role in the smuggling trade of the early 19th century. Today, it’s a beloved spot for surfers and beachgoers alike.

My aim with this painting was to capture the feeling of checking the surf near The Ship on a sunny spring morning, set against the iconic backdrop of Huntcliff. Watching the waves roll in, feeling the offshore wind against the back of your neck, tasting the salty sea air, and hearing the cries of seagulls circling overhead.
