The Slope of Hope

That feeling a surfer gets when they first glimpse the sea from the top of Saltburn bank. Hoping for big, clean, uncrowded waves.

Inspired by... Saltburn Bank

I travel up and down Saltburn Bank every day when I'm going to work. But I'll never forget the first time I went down the hill and saw lines and lines of perfect waves. It reminded me of the 'Endless Summer' movie, where they discover an offshore, fun-feeling wave over the sand dunes.

Even today, when I drive towards the beach, I still feel the same excitement, hoping and praying to find big, clean, and uncrowded waves.

My aim with this painting was to recreate that same feeling of hope and excitement that surfers get when they see those waves.
