Coral 'Reef' Street

Coral Street is one of Saltburn’s famous 'Jewel' streets, each named after precious stones, and it offers a fantastic sea view, usually accompanied by a camper van or two.

Inspired by... The Jewel Streets

These streets captivate me. Steeped in history dating back to 1861 when the town's founder, Henry Pease, insisted that every house had a view of the sea, an aspect I absolutely love!

There are seven 'Jewel' Streets, and each one is named after a different precious stone: Coral, Garnett, Ruby, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, and Amber. Yet, it's the part of Coral Street nearest the sea that fascinates me the most, especially the old Victorian house on the right, which I feel embodies the true essence of historic Saltburn.

In my painting, I aimed to blend Saltburn's Victorian heritage with its modern surf culture, featuring a surfer, surfboards, and an iconic camper van that characterises Marine Parade.
